Flowerbed Fit For a Castle

Flowerbed at Nottingham Castle by Jon Burgerman

Jon recently installed this burgerdoodle in a grassy patch outside the Nottingham Castle Museum. His agency, Début Art, writes:

A walking burger in bloom perhaps will remind us that everything is ‘grown’ from dirt, from colourful pigments, fast food packaging and the fast food itself. Here a veggie burger is having a delightful trawl through a garden, mindful to deposit himself (and his wrapper) into a bin or compost pile once he’s done.

I dunno, man, looks like a crop circle done by aliens to me…

The Deadgood Doodle Rug

Doodle Rug by Jon Burgerman x Deadgood

Remember the Deadgood Doodle Chair? Jon is collaborating with UK designers Deadgood once again, and this time it’s a Doodle Rug: a “rug with real character”!

For the second time in two years Deadgood have teamed up with leading British illustrator Jon Burgerman, this time to create the ‘Doodle Rug’ in which Jon’s distinctive doodle scrawls have been transformed into this bold and distinctive product.

The new rug was unveiled at Design Junction last week. It measures 2500mm x 1500mm and is made of 100% hand-tufted wool.

In an interview with Breaks of 10, Jon refers to the rug as “fuzzy and warm”. He further states:

It’s great to make works that people will hang on their walls but it’s just as cool to have stuff people can walk all over or park their bottoms on.

There you have it! Pick up a Doodle Rug (and then put it down and park your “bottom” on it) here now for £1487 or ~$2,312 USD.

Pens Are My Friends Book on Sale!

Pens Are My Friends book by Jon Burgerman

Jon’s magnum opus, Pens Are My Friends, was published in 2009 (see original post here), and two years later, it remains one of my favorite art books. It’s just a visual delight, really. He designed it in such a way that it provides not only an overview of his work, but it also wraps you in an experience of colorful doodles. The 310-page hardcover book comes with a DVD, poster, stickers and a zine. It’s currently on sale for only $40 through Fab.com. This is a MUST HAVE for your bookshelf. The sale is on for 3 days, so get it here!

Posse Spotting: Rooftops of Tehran, Iran!

Posse in Tehran, Iran!

We haven’t spotted a sign of the Posse in a while, but this sticker in Tehran, Iran makes it worth the wait. The Posse is in The Middle East! Iran! (”I ran so far awayyyy…”) Right in the center of the photo, you can see the Milad Tower, aka the tallest tower in Iran. Super cool. The anonymous stickerer sent footage to the JBVLA for some “provenance”. Somehow this makes the world feel just a little bit smaller and better. Thanks to Amir for sending this my way!

Bigtop Jinny Video Review

I just received my Burgerman Bigtop Jinny Bitbot (say THAT five times fast), and it’s kind of how I thought it would be. Jon’s all-over doodle design helps me look past the Bitbot’s strange head curvature and bloated Dunny body. But at $60, I’d recommend this for devoted Posse and Burgerman completists  only. SpankyStokes does a nice, 10-minute review of the figure, which is available here.

Custom Spy Vs. Spy

Custom Spy for Mad Magazine by Jon Burgerman

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Spy vs. Spy, MAD launched a Spy vs. Spy custom toy project.

First, we created a 6-inch “blank” version of our Spy action figure (right) — then we sent it out to a bunch of crazy-talented artists to customize however they liked! Suffice to say, the results were awesome!

The figures were on display at SDCC, although I never managed to find them despite being in the exhibition hall for four days straight. Luckily, The Idiotical is doing daily spotlights on the customs. This one’s by Jon.

Maek Sunglasses in Black and Blue

Designer Sunglasses by Jon Burgerman x Maek

Here’s an update to last year’s post about forthcoming sunglasses designed by Jon. It appears that the Nottingham-based company has changed its name from Ogee to Maek. Here’s a bit of explanation:

Maek  is  about  originality.   Maek  supports  the bold ethics and  hard  work of  the  creative industry. Drawing  from  the graft  of fashion designers, graphic designers, graffiti artists,  painters  and  photographers. We  believe   in  self expression   which  is  why  we  like  to ‘ Maek  it  original ‘.  Maek is all about creating authentic and wearable  fashion accessories  which are reliable  in quality and  built  to  last  for  both  the  casual   and  the  dedicated urban  individual who is creative and has attention to detail.

Nice. I like how they’ve made a pair that’s got the JB flair on the outside for the daring and then another one with doodles on the inside of the frame for folks who delight in having little style secrets. I’m not sure who’s stocking the new shades right now, so Maek advises you drop them a note through their contact page. You can also bug them on Twitter @MAEKeyewear. Which I’m about to do in 1…2…3.

New Socks From Sock It To Me

Sock It To Me Women's Socks by Jon Burgerman

It’s getting difficult to maintain Doodlesplatter on my own, but when I saw these, I knew I’d have to find some time. Somewhat unbelievably, there are no other Jon Burgerman socks in the artkive! Clearly that had to be remedied, so Jon partnered up with Sock It To Me to produce a pair of doodled socks in women’s and men’s styles. Each pair costs an affordable $9. Check out the rest of their funky foot-enhancers here.

Live Painting in Vegas

Jon Burgerman Live Painting in Vegas

Jon is live painting at Kidrobot’s pop-up location in Las Vegas at the Cosmoplitan’s P3 Studios. Starting today, Friday, June 24th, Jon will be customizing an 18-inch Mega MUNNY from 6-10PM. Jon will then paint a massive canvas on Saturday, June 25th from 12-3PM and 6-10PM. He finishes up on Sunday, June 26th from 12-3PM. I can’t see Mr. Burgerman loving Vegas, so if you’re in the area, stop in and bring him some snacks!
