Heroes of Burgertown Mini Figures
The Heroes of Burgertown represent Jon’s first mass-produced series of original figures based on his characters who have appeared in art shows and designs on all manner of school supplies over the years. Kidrobot put out the assortment of 15 blind-boxed vinyl mini-figures in September 2008. Jon’s book, Pens are My Friends reveals which characters he drew for the series but didn’t make the cut (no spoilers here…)
Says Jon: “The premise for the series is that each character has been made into a toy as a reward for their achievements in Burgertown. There’s a different reason as to why each has been awarded, most however can hardly really be called heroic. It’s a gentle jab at the cult of celebrity and how it’s the dubious accomplishments that usually get rewarded with recognition. You’ve got to wonder why certain people are put on a pedestal and heralded as people to aspire to. In turn it makes us reflect on our own society and culture.”
The Heroes of Burgertown were produced as 13 standard and 2 mystery figures. Each comes with a small card explaining his/her heroism. Fans of Jon’s art will not be disappointed in seeing the 3D representations of his characters, spindly arms, skinny legs and all.
Here are the ratios: Doofus (2/20), Alphonso (1/20), Dinkton Wallis (1/20), Sausage (1/20), Yimmi Bites (2/20), Collie (1/20), Piccalilicus (1/20), Tiny Hero (2/20), Willhelm (1/20), The Gobbler (1/20), Coco Gulab Juman (2/20), Tittymon (2/20), Zomboo (2/20), Bimlar (?/???), Mendaline (?/???)
Blind boxes from the series may still be available. Open boxes can often be procured on eBay. One of the chase figures has a secret surprise message…
