Mail Me Art

Mail Me Art is a British-based project, run by Darren Di Lieto, the founder and co-editor of the illustration news portal the Little Chimp Society. Over the course of a year, the Mail Me Art project brought together a vast collection of artistic work sent in the form of mail by both professional and amateur artists of all ages from across the world. A wide variety of media were used in an equally wide variety of styles and the work arrived on everything from postcards and envelopes to boxes and pieces of wood.

No stranger to reclaimed envelope art, Jon contributed the piece above to Darren’s compendium: Mail Me Art: Going Postal with the World’s Best Illustrators and Designers. The book brings together a selection of some of the best pieces submitted to the Mail Me Art project over the course of the year it ran. In addition to the wide variety of contemporary artwork, the book includes an in-depth insight into the project plus a series of seventeen interviews with artists including Jon, Catalina Estrada, Dan May, Jeff Miracola, Michael Slack and Kristian Olson. Mail Me Art: Going Postal with the World’s Best Illustrators and Designers is available to pre-order now on Amazon UK and Amazon US with an ETA of March 2009.

The Mail Me Art exhibition will be held during April 2009 (April 3rd-April 9th) at the Red Gate Gallery in London. The exhibition will showcase work from across the globe and provide visitors with the opportunity to view and buy artwork that has contributed to the project and drawn together a diverse community of artists. All of the work submitted to the Mail Me Art project will be on display and available for purchase. The Mail Me Art book will also be available to buy at the event. Any work unsold after the exhibition will be available to buy through this site. Jon gets top billing on the poster!
