Second Life Virtual Art Gallery

Jon Burgerman Second Life Gallery by Cris Rose

I’m going to preface this by admitting that my knowledge of Second Life is limited to an article I read in Wired. My attitude towards it could be summarized with: “That’s actually pretty neat, but I should probably focus on my First Life.” However, it may be time to give Second Life a second chance.

Cris Rose blew my mind with this one. Cris built a quarter square mile of Second Life virtual art galleries (with a solid chunk of real estate devoted to Jon Burgerman)  before third-party funding unfortunately fell through. Those are actual Burgermenos and canvases by Jon that Cris rendered in Second Life. I think I speak for all of us when I say that this project has legs; let’s see it rise again! I’m in awe of this: it presents the possibility for people to see real life art regardless of their physical location.  And my vision is poor, but is that a Tado in the corner…?!

Keep up with Cris by following his antics on twitter here. A bit more about Second Life and lots more images (courtesy and copyright Cris) follow.

Second Life is a free 3D virtual world imagined and created by its Residents. Once installed, you will be able to walk, “teleport” or even fly to thousands of exciting 3D locations. You can also use voice and text chat to communicate with other real people from around the world.
