Laser-Etched Laptop
I got a note from Jason Lefton that directed me to this great video. A long-time fan of Jon’s work, Jason realized they shared a mutual friend who used to be pen-pals with him. Inspired by the doodles Jon drew on the back of each envelope, and the fact he was going to be stateside in New York, Jason wrote Jon an email proposing to have some doodles etched into his laptop. The response:
He was very kind and open to the idea, so I formed a relationship with someone here in Richmond, Virginia who owns a couple laser engraving machines. He had never engraved a laptop case before so we ran some tests on a broken laptop and then hit mine with the final product shown in the little video I put together. I’m super happy with the result and am considering providing the customization for laptops, iPhones, and iPods, here in Richmond, using original artwork provided by some of my wonderfully talented friends.
I posed the question to Jason as to whether he could laser-doodle a stainless steel refrigerator. Jason thinks there may be a way, but suspects that Jon is “already planning and plotting to take over kitchen appliances in the near future.” If that’s the case, I’m on board and all ready with the tagline: Let’s put the ART back in Cuisinart.
Jason Lefton is a designer with experience in web development and animation, and he has recently been enjoying the exploration of the filmmaking process. He’s super fond of photography, traveling, film, ping pong, cats, postcards, riding his bike in sunny weather and collecting toys. The polar bear is his favorite animal. Keep in touch with him in moving images here.
