Honda CR-Z Mode Art Thingy

Honda Mode Art
Although I seldom use terms like “thingy,” that most certainly is what this is. You begin here by choosing “econ,” “norm,” or “sport” modes, of which, Jon somehow represents the “norm”.  After connecting to Facebook or uploading a picture of yourself, you end up with virtual “mode art” that looks like this:
Honda Mode Art

You can then download an unframed version of the artwork or send it to your phone or a friend.  End scene. That’s pretty much it here. Somehow this is supposed to register on a subconscious level that you can customize the Honda CR-Z to “turn your life into a work of art,” but I think this campaign would be more successful if they’d teamed up with Infectious car art. Voila! My Honda (in real time) below.

Inkstrumental Crossover Interview!

Inkstrumental Crossoversauce

I just posted an interview with Jon and Mills (of ustwo), creators of Inkstrumental™ on the Neon Monster blog. Not coincidentally, Neon Monster’s blog is another example of the outstanding example of custom blog design by The Neon Hive, who are also responsible for the fantastic blog you are currently enjoying.

Hardcore readers of Doodlesplatter will recall an actual coincidence. I first posted about Inkstrumental™, almost exactly a year ago today. Here’s a starting teaser to the story:

Inkstrumental™ is a fun game where characters designed by Jon Burgerman each correspond to a sound. You assemble a ragtag band of 8 characters (out of a possible 30 + 1 wildcard where you can record your own vocal sample) and tap them to add their voices to one of 3 backing tracks. (Or you can just button mash.) When you’re satisfied with the result, save it and share it. Fun for the whole family! I recently took a break from playing Inkstrumental™ for a volley of virtual wordplay with Jon, the “professional doodler” and Mills, “the Willy Wonka of the app world”.

Hooked? Hope so. Please read the rest of the illuminating Inkterview™ here.

Inkstrumental is Live!

Inkstrumental First Attempt

I got a message from Mills of ustwo™ on Saturday alerting me that the long-awaited Inkstrumental iPhone app was now available from the Apple store (try this link). I’ve been playing around with it in spare moments ever since. If you’d like to check out my first composition, there’s a screengrab above and a short embedded video below.

Mills also sent along a tidy zip file of 31 Inkstrumental wallpapers featuring all of Jon’s characters for Doodlesplatter readers. You can download those below. I’ve got much more to say about this, including an interview with Mills and Jon about the app, which will appear as a crossover with another blog in the next couple days. In the meantime, UK friends, please mark your calendars for May 20th from 7-8PM. There will be a special Inkstrumental event at the London Apple store on Regent Street. Details on all this to come. Now start making music and/or wallpaper!

Granimator Freeform iPad Wallpaper Creator by ustwo

Granimator Freeform iPad & iPhone Wallpaper Creator by Jon Burgerman and ustwo™Well isn’t this just like our friends over at ustwo™ who are constantly on the cusp of cutting edge app technology and living by nobody’s rules but their own. We’re halfway (Jon’s half) through an interview with them about the impending Inkstrumental release, and BAM, they drop this new Granimator app for the iPad! [Note: The app's own website says it is available for iPhone as well as iPad, but after upgrading iTunes, downloading the app and syncing my iPhone, I can't corroborate that. The Granimator app shows up as an iPad app and is not readable on my iPhone. That's a bummer.]

Granimator™ is a creative sound based wallpaper creator. A free-form, immersive touch and sound experience that allows you to become the artist and create the best wallpapers for your iPad or iPhone. Once you’ve created your masterpiece, save your creation or show them off to your friends through Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Granimator.com.

The Granimator™ offers an exquisite collection of ustwo™ designed packs which gives you access to multiple choices of graphical elements (styles, shapes and backgrounds) which you can touch, pinch and drag across the screen to create stunning compositions and soundscapes. Granimator will be among the first apps available when the iPad launches overseas next month.

“Granimator is the perfect blend of everything ustwo stands for: creativity, passion, motion, sound and style,” said Mills, co-founder of ustwo, which has spent £55,000 to date developing the app, with a further £75,000 set aside for further development. “This is an iPad app designed to enable users to create something beautiful, while being fully engaged with the creative process.”

The app itself is a free download and users will initially be able to access free artist packs from in-house designers BOBBYBOBSON, Gracie Miller, Laffers and Jason Gregory, as well as the eagerly anticipated Mentalism pack by our boy, Jon Burgerman. The next release planned for Granimator will be the Coolective Pack which will feature six more artists, including Pete Fowler! Make it for iPhones too! Doodles Encoded as Music

code-organ

This is a fun and creative distraction. Code Organ analyzes the body of a website and translates the code into music. It scans the content and removes all letters not in the musical scale. There’s all sorts of other stuff involved in the “complex algorithm,” but if you want to know about it, you can read the About page. In fact, I highly doubt you’re still reading this, because if I were you, I’d have already clicked over to Code Organ to be honest. HI MOM!

House of Cards

Jon Burgerman for House of CardsJon was recently invited to contribute to an interesting charity art project. The House of Cards exhibition uses playing cards–that bastion of gambling and money–as the canvas. More directly, the metaphor “house of cards” applies to Britain’s current housing crisis:  “fragile and in danger of collapse.” Jon’s card is among a great array of British designers, including Damien Hirst and Vivienne Westwood. The cards were on exhibit at Haunch of Venison last week. If you didn’t make it, you can pick up a limited edition set of playing cards featuring the art from the show at Shelter’s online shop. If you don’t have £70 or hate card games, there are a bunch of other ways to help (starting at £10 here).

Rogue Audio Jigsaw Puzzle

Rogue Audio x Jon Burgerman Jigsaw PuzzleNot quite quick enough on this one, I’m afraid. Oki-ni just put up for sale an edition of 24 wooden jigsaw puzzles based on Jon’s art for the 2008 Rogue Audio album, Haphazard.

This is a specially created Rogue Audio Jigsaw for oki-ni.com in conjunction with the artist Jon Burgerman and record label Global Underground, to celebrate the release of Rogue Audio’s new album “Haphazard”.

There are only 24 of these in existence so we don’t expect them to last too long!!! An amazing collectors piece and executed to the highest spec, these really are amazing. Get one fast.

Somehow I didn’t know these existed, but when Oki-ni dropped them to just £8.00, they promptly sold out.

Animated Clothing for Virtual Worlds

Lockwood x Burgerman female Anton hoodie

Jon’s presence in virtual reality now extends beyond the landscape of LittleBigPlanet and the art galleries of Second Life. Lockwood Publishing has inked a deal to full-on Burgerize your PlayStation Home. According to this brief post, “everything from glowsticks to sofas will be released on a monthly basis.” Lockwood has also teased me with promises of animated (moving) furniture. AlphaZone4 got pictures of some of the shirts and sneakers.  Check it out after the jump!
