inkstrumental-banner

Doodlesplatter will be bringing you sneak peeks and exclusive info on Jon and ustwo’s upcoming iPhone app, Inkstrumental, as we count down to its release. The kind folks at ustwo have given us a hint at the characters to come, as seen below. Later this week, they will be releasing a panoply of character-based iPhone wallpapers on their blog, so tune in, or um, yes, we’ll probably remind you.

Doodles Encoded as Music

code-organ

This is a fun and creative distraction. Code Organ analyzes the body of a website and translates the code into music. It scans the content and removes all letters not in the musical scale. There’s all sorts of other stuff involved in the “complex algorithm,” but if you want to know about it, you can read the About page. In fact, I highly doubt you’re still reading this, because if I were you, I’d have already clicked over to Code Organ to be honest. HI MOM!

House of Cards

Jon Burgerman for House of CardsJon was recently invited to contribute to an interesting charity art project. The House of Cards exhibition uses playing cards–that bastion of gambling and money–as the canvas. More directly, the metaphor “house of cards” applies to Britain’s current housing crisis:  “fragile and in danger of collapse.” Jon’s card is among a great array of British designers, including Damien Hirst and Vivienne Westwood. The cards were on exhibit at Haunch of Venison last week. If you didn’t make it, you can pick up a limited edition set of playing cards featuring the art from the show at Shelter’s online shop. If you don’t have £70 or hate card games, there are a bunch of other ways to help (starting at £10 here).

Rogue Audio Jigsaw Puzzle

Rogue Audio x Jon Burgerman Jigsaw PuzzleNot quite quick enough on this one, I’m afraid. Oki-ni just put up for sale an edition of 24 wooden jigsaw puzzles based on Jon’s art for the 2008 Rogue Audio album, Haphazard.

This is a specially created Rogue Audio Jigsaw for oki-ni.com in conjunction with the artist Jon Burgerman and record label Global Underground, to celebrate the release of Rogue Audio’s new album “Haphazard”.

There are only 24 of these in existence so we don’t expect them to last too long!!! An amazing collectors piece and executed to the highest spec, these really are amazing. Get one fast.

Somehow I didn’t know these existed, but when Oki-ni dropped them to just £8.00, they promptly sold out.

Animated Clothing for Virtual Worlds

Lockwood x Burgerman female Anton hoodie

Jon’s presence in virtual reality now extends beyond the landscape of LittleBigPlanet and the art galleries of Second Life. Lockwood Publishing has inked a deal to full-on Burgerize your PlayStation Home. According to this brief post, “everything from glowsticks to sofas will be released on a monthly basis.” Lockwood has also teased me with promises of animated (moving) furniture. AlphaZone4 got pictures of some of the shirts and sneakers.  Check it out after the jump!

Second Life Virtual Art Gallery

Jon Burgerman Second Life Gallery by Cris Rose

I’m going to preface this by admitting that my knowledge of Second Life is limited to an article I read in Wired. My attitude towards it could be summarized with: “That’s actually pretty neat, but I should probably focus on my First Life.” However, it may be time to give Second Life a second chance.

Cris Rose blew my mind with this one. Cris built a quarter square mile of Second Life virtual art galleries (with a solid chunk of real estate devoted to Jon Burgerman)  before third-party funding unfortunately fell through. Those are actual Burgermenos and canvases by Jon that Cris rendered in Second Life. I think I speak for all of us when I say that this project has legs; let’s see it rise again! I’m in awe of this: it presents the possibility for people to see real life art regardless of their physical location.  And my vision is poor, but is that a Tado in the corner…?!

Keep up with Cris by following his antics on twitter here. A bit more about Second Life and lots more images (courtesy and copyright Cris) follow.

Second Life is a free 3D virtual world imagined and created by its Residents. Once installed, you will be able to walk, “teleport” or even fly to thousands of exciting 3D locations. You can also use voice and text chat to communicate with other real people from around the world.

Media Molecule Takeover

Little Big Planet stickers by Jon Burgerman

Not all takeovers are hostile. In fact, this one’s more of a makeover than a takeover. This is the second Doodlesplatter-documented incident of a website getting the Jon Burgerman effect: the first was back in 2007 for Stuff and Nonsense. Times and tech have changed, and Media Molecule now gets the royal, full technicolor treatment. In advance of the June 25th release of Jon’s LittleBigPlanet sticker pack, the Media Molecule site is now covered in doodles. There will be 72 doodles in all–available to purchase as graffiti and decor for your LittleBigPlanet. This is definitely some Matrix-style business: once you’re done covering your walls, gadgets and cars with physical Jon Burgerman stickers, you can start bombing the virtual realm. Media Molecule is working with other artists and further makeovers are sure to follow, so click below for a preserved image of LittleBurgerPlanet.
