Anxieteam Performs at Pete’s Candy Store

Pete's Candy Store Anxieteam Performance

Doodlesplatter NYC correspondent, Saki, was kind enough to provide us with lots of photos from Anxieteam’s recent Brooklyn shows. These snaps are from the June 2nd gig at Pete’s Candy Store where Saki was even one of the “Let’s Eat Soya” dancers. I don’t think she’s posted about this yet, but you should check out her Flickr and blog anyway because she rules and because I said so. From Munch-esque backdrop to the Cher-esque costume changes, this looked like a lot of fun. Jon also has many more photos on his site here.

Sunday-Singalong at Goodbye Blue Monday in Brooklyn

Sunday Singalong at Goodbye Blue Monday

Ready for more of this? This just in from Jon:

Singalong with Anxieteam this coming Sunday night at Goodbye Blue Monday, 1087 Broadway, Brooklyn, New York, from 9pm.

This special event sees the last performance for sometime on the shores of America for the cute cartoon couple.

But wipe those tears away! Through-out the performance, the band will be giving away their first ever CD to ten lucky audience members - for FREE! The CD includes some of their classic pop tunes along with karaoke versions so you too can join in and singalong with Anxieteam! Each CD will be numbered and signed by the band and to further record this momentous giveaway Jim and Jon will draw your portrait on the cover. If you don’t live in NYC, then get a friend to come along instead (with your photograph!).

This is absolutely guaranteed to be a collectors item in the years to come, perfect for you to sell on eBay and retire on the profits. (non-guaranteed by the state of Anxieteam)

See you at Goodbye Blue Monday on Sunday to sing-along and say goodbye (for now) to Anxieteam!

Hopefully the Anxieteam CDs will make their way to Burgerplex for all of us who are currently geographically challenged.

Anxieteam Performs At Factory Fresh

Anxieteam at Factory Fresh

Jon and Jim returned to Factory Fresh last Saturday to perform as Anxieteam. Per RobotsWillKill:

The multi-talented duo sang, danced and painted simultaneously. Jim’s beats and Jon’s droll texts were as charmingly infectious and upbeat as ever.

Inkstrumental Crossover Interview!

Inkstrumental Crossoversauce

I just posted an interview with Jon and Mills (of ustwo), creators of Inkstrumental™ on the Neon Monster blog. Not coincidentally, Neon Monster’s blog is another example of the outstanding example of custom blog design by The Neon Hive, who are also responsible for the fantastic blog you are currently enjoying.

Hardcore readers of Doodlesplatter will recall an actual coincidence. I first posted about Inkstrumental™, almost exactly a year ago today. Here’s a starting teaser to the story:

Inkstrumental™ is a fun game where characters designed by Jon Burgerman each correspond to a sound. You assemble a ragtag band of 8 characters (out of a possible 30 + 1 wildcard where you can record your own vocal sample) and tap them to add their voices to one of 3 backing tracks. (Or you can just button mash.) When you’re satisfied with the result, save it and share it. Fun for the whole family! I recently took a break from playing Inkstrumental™ for a volley of virtual wordplay with Jon, the “professional doodler” and Mills, “the Willy Wonka of the app world”.

Hooked? Hope so. Please read the rest of the illuminating Inkterview™ here.

More Anxieteam in Italy

Anxieteam in Rome

After posting this cheekily-titled blog “Rome if You Want to (With Anxieteam) (Or Not, Because It’s Naples),” I found some more great photos of the Naples gig. These photos of Jon and Jim come from the Urban Superstar blog and were taken by Serena Morelli. This looks like so much fun. Anxieteam rules. Fighting neurosis with a ukulele, a synthesizer and more props than Carrot Top one day at a time.

Inkstrumental is Live!

Inkstrumental First Attempt

I got a message from Mills of ustwo™ on Saturday alerting me that the long-awaited Inkstrumental iPhone app was now available from the Apple store (try this link). I’ve been playing around with it in spare moments ever since. If you’d like to check out my first composition, there’s a screengrab above and a short embedded video below.

Mills also sent along a tidy zip file of 31 Inkstrumental wallpapers featuring all of Jon’s characters for Doodlesplatter readers. You can download those below. I’ve got much more to say about this, including an interview with Mills and Jon about the app, which will appear as a crossover with another blog in the next couple days. In the meantime, UK friends, please mark your calendars for May 20th from 7-8PM. There will be a special Inkstrumental event at the London Apple store on Regent Street. Details on all this to come. Now start making music and/or wallpaper!

Not so sure what Jon and Jim are wearing, but suffice it to say Anxieteam “rocked” Rome Naples. Anybody got some video?

Here’s what you need to know:

WHEREMADRE, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donna Regina, Naples. Via Luigi Settembrini 79, Napoli – tel. +39 0815624561

WHEN: May 1st to June 14th, 2010

WHAT: MADRE and Napoli COMICON present Urban Superstar Show Festival, first edition of the first Festival that a Contemporary Art Museum dedicates in Europe to Underground Art, Pop Surrealism, Lowbrow Art and Urban Art, which are to say the new artistic currents which better represent the contemporaneity. Italian artist David Vecchiato has mustered lots and lots of fellows from all over the world into Naples MADRE for 4 collective exhibitions for the year 2010 and will keep on gathering, in his capacity as curator, leading figures of an art movement which is destined to become the new Contemporary Art avant-garde. Vecchiato’s aim is to propose a critical order among different artistic trends.

The exhibition opening the Festival, on May, the 1st, 2010, is Back from Black. From bright Pop to dark Underground. And back. Urban Superstar Show Festival wants to clarify the origins and the stylistic divisions, thus the currents of this Underground or Lowbrow Art, or this “low profile” Art that, as it’s analysed in Vecchiato’s writing, is actually the only one able to tell with extreme clearness about the juxtapposition between fiction and reality in which Western Countries are lately living.

It looks like Italy is also going to be treated to an Anxieteam performance! Tweets Jon:

I’m doing a signing and doodling with Jim Avignon at the Napoli Comicon tomorrow. And the later we’ll do a singing and dancing.

If we have any Posse members in Italy, please take pictures and I’ll send you stickers!

Granimator Freeform iPad Wallpaper Creator by ustwo

Granimator Freeform iPad & iPhone Wallpaper Creator by Jon Burgerman and ustwo™Well isn’t this just like our friends over at ustwo™ who are constantly on the cusp of cutting edge app technology and living by nobody’s rules but their own. We’re halfway (Jon’s half) through an interview with them about the impending Inkstrumental release, and BAM, they drop this new Granimator app for the iPad! [Note: The app's own website says it is available for iPhone as well as iPad, but after upgrading iTunes, downloading the app and syncing my iPhone, I can't corroborate that. The Granimator app shows up as an iPad app and is not readable on my iPhone. That's a bummer.]

Granimator™ is a creative sound based wallpaper creator. A free-form, immersive touch and sound experience that allows you to become the artist and create the best wallpapers for your iPad or iPhone. Once you’ve created your masterpiece, save your creation or show them off to your friends through Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Granimator.com.

The Granimator™ offers an exquisite collection of ustwo™ designed packs which gives you access to multiple choices of graphical elements (styles, shapes and backgrounds) which you can touch, pinch and drag across the screen to create stunning compositions and soundscapes. Granimator will be among the first apps available when the iPad launches overseas next month.

“Granimator is the perfect blend of everything ustwo stands for: creativity, passion, motion, sound and style,” said Mills, co-founder of ustwo, which has spent £55,000 to date developing the app, with a further £75,000 set aside for further development. “This is an iPad app designed to enable users to create something beautiful, while being fully engaged with the creative process.”

The app itself is a free download and users will initially be able to access free artist packs from in-house designers BOBBYBOBSON, Gracie Miller, Laffers and Jason Gregory, as well as the eagerly anticipated Mentalism pack by our boy, Jon Burgerman. The next release planned for Granimator will be the Coolective Pack which will feature six more artists, including Pete Fowler! Make it for iPhones too!
