Jon Burgerman is a Good Neighbor

Jon Burgerman is just like James Franco now! Both artists are on soap operas, though in Jon’s case, it’s actually his poster, Nineteen Something Or Other, that showed up on Australian TV drama, Neighbours. The poster (still available internationally via IKEA) was featured in episode 5951 of Neighbours, which aired on June 26th, 2010 in Australia and August 9th, 2010 in the UK. Thanks to Amir and the indispensable JBVL for the tip!

Lossy Botany Lab: The Plant Plushes

JB x FM collabs for Lossy Botany Lab

Remember this great Felt Mistress teaser? Felt Mistress really knocked it out of the park with these felted fruits, veggies and plants. As with most of Jon’s shows, there is a ton of work, so here’s just a glimpse at some of the plushes photographed by Jeps and Evelien (of Darker and the Dutch Doodlesplatter posse). Stay tuned (or if you’re at the last one, look back) for a plethora of posts [click here for current tag archive], each concerning a separate element of the installation and exhibit (as well as the pricelist from heliumcowboy artspace). Click through to see some of the great soft sculptures, a pic with Evelien to show the size of these buggers and a little video too. Head over to Felt Mistress’ Flickr set for even more fantastic felty foliage.

Jon Burgerman Likes Cats

Jon Burgerman digs cats. To paraphrase an old adage, the proof is in the kibbles. Of his latest poster, he writes:

Do you like cats? What is your favourite cat? Here are my favourite cats, the ones I’ve met over the years and have left a lasting impression on me.

Cat Poster by Jon Burgerman

Via Jon’s Flickr, I’ve collected a few of his feline friends (see below), mostly those he encountered during his Brooklyn residency last summer. You can see some more cat action in this My American Summer montage video. You can get the Cats poster over at Burgerplex. It’s a “massive format portrait size 70×100 cm / 27.6×39.6″ high quality print on 230gsm uncoated art paper sent rolled in a a strong card tube for $21.56 USD. Click through for some cute overload.

Inkstrumental is Live!

Inkstrumental First Attempt

I got a message from Mills of ustwo™ on Saturday alerting me that the long-awaited Inkstrumental iPhone app was now available from the Apple store (try this link). I’ve been playing around with it in spare moments ever since. If you’d like to check out my first composition, there’s a screengrab above and a short embedded video below.

Mills also sent along a tidy zip file of 31 Inkstrumental wallpapers featuring all of Jon’s characters for Doodlesplatter readers. You can download those below. I’ve got much more to say about this, including an interview with Mills and Jon about the app, which will appear as a crossover with another blog in the next couple days. In the meantime, UK friends, please mark your calendars for May 20th from 7-8PM. There will be a special Inkstrumental event at the London Apple store on Regent Street. Details on all this to come. Now start making music and/or wallpaper!

Kicks-n-Canvas Video

Check out this video from the Kicks-n-Canvas show. We like when non-traditional art objects are given the fine art treatment. Cheers to SoleHeaven and  Zero Cool Gallery for making this event happen.  Love to see these end up as production footwear in our Sneakers category. Just sayin’.

I Think I Miss You Video by Anxieteam

Looks like Jon and co were up to something else besides muradoodling for AOL while recently in India. The latest video by Anxieteam was directed by Isaac Niemand & Premjit Ramachandran with photography by Saul Tiff. “I Think I Miss You” appears to be part of the story of the directors’ film, The Archaeology of Mind. I’m glad I saw that because I was going to try to make a clever joke like, “Man, The Knife has really let themselves go.” More please.

Jon Burgerman Sells Art Online!

This is kind of fun. The narrator makes a few good quips. I know this sort of thing probably makes many artists cringe, but the business of art is a reality! More on that process at http://sellmoreartonline.com.

Globetrotting and Doodling For AOL

Wondering what the heck Jon was doing in Bangalore? Doodling all over the world for AOL, which, despite what anyone under 20 might think, actually still exists! Even my super-stalking, um, sleuthing skills couldn’t get me into India, so I had to wait for the downlow from this press release by Sam Summerskill of Jon’s agency, Debut Art.

Jon Burgerman has been flying all over the world for the past couple of weeks painting huge murals for the guys at Aol. He’s been to New York, Dulles, back to the UK and then…. Bangalore where he is today.

Been a nuts couple of weeks for Mr Burgerman, he has been drawing the murals then letting the guys at the different Aol. headquarters colour them in based. Super interactive, and super fun.

So, i guess, gadzoiks for Jon Burgerman day (apparently what today, the 10th February, is being called around the Aol. offices.)

Check the pics on our Flickr page, and check out this awesome time lapse video of Jon Burgermans NYC wall here.

Massive thanks to Malcolm and Alicianne again for their continued support and all of the guys in Aol headquarters in Bangalore and the US who have been looking after Jon and making his stay a good one.

To see more of Jon Burgerman’s portfolio click here, and do drop us an email or call if you have anything you are working on that requires his vibes.

Time lapse created by GHAVA.

The following photos were taken around the world for AOL, and I’ve borrowed them from Debut Art’s Flickr Set (where you can find several more). The final, coloring-in photos, were taken today, in Bangalore. Jon also took over the AOL website with some digital doodles. You can find Debut Art’s original press release here. Click through for more photos. [UPDATE: Wondering where Jon got his Burger sweatshirt? Look here.]

The Man in the Mirror at NOISE Lab

Take that, MJ! We got our hands on this great edit of Jon live doodling at the NOISE Lab in Manchester. Now included in the JBVLA. Very, very cool.
