Doodles Encoded as Music

code-organ

This is a fun and creative distraction. Code Organ analyzes the body of a website and translates the code into music. It scans the content and removes all letters not in the musical scale. There’s all sorts of other stuff involved in the “complex algorithm,” but if you want to know about it, you can read the About page. In fact, I highly doubt you’re still reading this, because if I were you, I’d have already clicked over to Code Organ to be honest. HI MOM!

Let’s Go All the Wayback

vintage-website

We’ve been doing a bunch of wayback artkiving lately with various bits of Burger ephemera popping up on Doodlesplatter each day. The Twitter is really the best place to get notification of these 25 or so posts (unless you have the time to peruse the whole site daily). I thought I was actually (albeit momentarily) caught up, when Amir dropped me a link to the *actual* Internet Wayback Machine’s cache of Jon’s own site for almost exactly 9 years now. Nearly all of the images have moved on and the links are broken, but there’s some gem text still visible. In 2001, the site’s “disclaimer” read: “this site is still in its infancy and as yet hasn’t been toilet trained.” We snagged a few early character images. A couple even made their way to the early screensavers. If you have too much time on your hands, or maybe just a passing break between other matters of importance, kill some time and brain cells seeing how your favorite websites looked wayback here.

We’re Turning on the Wayback Machine

archive

Remember all that great old Burger ephemera we got in the mail? The process of scanning and artkiving has begun! If you want to stay current on the ancient texts, follow Doodlesplatter on Twitter. As these new/old items enter the artkive, they will default to the year of their origin. As such, you won’t see them at the top of Doodlesplatter where all good posts typically start their journey.

Globetrotting and Doodling For AOL

Wondering what the heck Jon was doing in Bangalore? Doodling all over the world for AOL, which, despite what anyone under 20 might think, actually still exists! Even my super-stalking, um, sleuthing skills couldn’t get me into India, so I had to wait for the downlow from this press release by Sam Summerskill of Jon’s agency, Debut Art.

Jon Burgerman has been flying all over the world for the past couple of weeks painting huge murals for the guys at Aol. He’s been to New York, Dulles, back to the UK and then…. Bangalore where he is today.

Been a nuts couple of weeks for Mr Burgerman, he has been drawing the murals then letting the guys at the different Aol. headquarters colour them in based. Super interactive, and super fun.

So, i guess, gadzoiks for Jon Burgerman day (apparently what today, the 10th February, is being called around the Aol. offices.)

Check the pics on our Flickr page, and check out this awesome time lapse video of Jon Burgermans NYC wall here.

Massive thanks to Malcolm and Alicianne again for their continued support and all of the guys in Aol headquarters in Bangalore and the US who have been looking after Jon and making his stay a good one.

To see more of Jon Burgerman’s portfolio click here, and do drop us an email or call if you have anything you are working on that requires his vibes.

Time lapse created by GHAVA.

The following photos were taken around the world for AOL, and I’ve borrowed them from Debut Art’s Flickr Set (where you can find several more). The final, coloring-in photos, were taken today, in Bangalore. Jon also took over the AOL website with some digital doodles. You can find Debut Art’s original press release here. Click through for more photos. [UPDATE: Wondering where Jon got his Burger sweatshirt? Look here.]

Rotocasted: The Toy Collector’s Database

RotocastedI want to take this rainy Friday and remind everybody about one of my favorite websites, Rotocasted. The toy collecting database is being developed by talented toy designer Sergey Safonov, and I help out as a “volunteer librarian”. I like Rotocasted for the fact that I can show my Collection to anybody with a computer, and by extension, I can share my Wishlist with just a link.  It’s also extremely addictive. Want to see (almost) every toy that Jon Burgerman has ever made?  Or which of Jon’s toys are the most wanted? How about what people are saying about Jon’s Kidrobot figures? Or maybe you just want to see every toy in the database that happens to be green? You can leave comments and make trades. It’s a lot of fun, and like most passionate side projects, it’s always evolving. You can tell Sergey  has his heart in this project and really believes in trying to do the impossible: create an accurate, visual encyclopedia of art toys. Every time we upload toys and enter data about them, we’re helping write toy history. Check it out and claim your Burgermenos! One of Jon’s Dunnys is on the Most Popular page; let’s get the Heroes of Burgertown to join him! I wrote a bit more and posted some other screengrabs on The Neon Monster Blog.

Have a Nice Weekend

Odopod, the design agency behind that White Gold milk commercial, has an interesting digital sketching platform.

Odosketch is a Flash drawing application that we first launched in August of 2006 for an Adobe Design Gallery feature on Odopod. After that, we left the tool open for anyone to use and as of our most recent launch, over 19,000 sketches had been saved.

Here are a few more of Jon’s Odosketches. If you can’t see the sketch-in-progress, you need Flash. If you don’t want Flash, hit the jump for a still.

Animated Clothing for Virtual Worlds

Lockwood x Burgerman female Anton hoodie

Jon’s presence in virtual reality now extends beyond the landscape of LittleBigPlanet and the art galleries of Second Life. Lockwood Publishing has inked a deal to full-on Burgerize your PlayStation Home. According to this brief post, “everything from glowsticks to sofas will be released on a monthly basis.” Lockwood has also teased me with promises of animated (moving) furniture. AlphaZone4 got pictures of some of the shirts and sneakers.  Check it out after the jump!

Share Some Candy Shares Some Workspaces

Jon Burgerman's studio by Share Some Candy

I love a good gander behind the scenes. Following in the legacy of Burgerstudio tours from Guillotine (France) and Tiki Chris (UK) comes the latest Workspace reveal by Share Some Candy (USA). Founded by Reuben and Yael Miller of my homestate of New Jersey, the site focuses on all aspects of design. Jon is the fourth artist to join their new Workspaces feature series. There are about 30 great shots of Jon’s studio, including much fun clutter and a few works that were new to me.  Check it out here.

Today’s Most Bumped

freshbump

Doodlesplatter has two spots on the Today’s Most Bumped menu at Freshbump! The second image from the left is yesterday’s post on Jon’s metal figures. Right next to that is the  Jon Burgerman Has a Posse logo. I just found out about Freshbump, and while Doodlesplatter’s stats aren’t showing a ton of new visitors yet, it sure is fun to get bumped. It’s even fun to just say “bumped.” If you’d like to help bump Doodlesplatter up to the top, just click the “bump” button under the picture at http://www.freshbump.com/jon-burgerman-has-a-posse. No sign-up needed. Give us a nudge, would ya? And check out Freshbump while you’re there.

[UPDATE: Well this just puts the "bum" in "bump." It looks like there's been a glitch or perhaps a purposeful removal of the two Doodlesplatter Freshbumps from yesterday. I've sent an inquiry. The link above no longer works. Did we bump with too much vigor? It's hardly like we took over the phone lines on American Idol or something. Anyhow, in the meantime, if you're really itching to bump something,  you can bump our friend, The Felt Mistress, here: http://www.freshbump.com/jon-burgerman-plush-toys]

[UPDATE 2: Apparently, we did overbump! Our sudden vigorous bumpage was a first for the site, and they incorrectly interpreted it as spam. Another stray act of civil disobedience by the posse? FreshBump are nice folks and apologized for the take-down. Bump again at your leisure!]

Freshbump is a daily visual inspiration source for industries including, but not limited to: Advertising, Architecture, Computer Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Photography. Freshbump is a social news media site that facilitates community driven content promotion and prioritizes posts based on the collective view of our userbase.

FormFiftyFive Header

FormFiftyFive header by Jon Burgerman

Clear your cache for another Monday media takeover by Jon.  This round, Jon has doodled a nice purple header for the great FormFiftyFive design site. Check it out this week only.

Founded in 2005 by an ever-growing group of young designers and vagabonds eager to collect and share the best design work they came across, FormFiftyFive is an international, interactive showcase of creative work.
