Nokia Nseries Italian Campaign

Nokia N86 ad by Jon Burgerman

How great is this picture? Moreover, how great would this giant ad in a metal enclosure (complete with pigeons) look in my house? Just need to open up the skylight to make some room… This photo comes to Doodlesplatter from Rome. (The posse is everywhere.) These installations have popped up in Italy supporting the Nokia Nseries.

Pepsi Ad Campaigns

Jon Burgerman Pepsi Can

If Jon Burgerman has a personal preference between Coke and Pepsi, he keeps it separate from his professional endeavors. While he has contributed to the Coca Cola Trexi series, he has also done design work for Pepsi. Sometime in 2006, Jon did the above left print ad for Pepsi. I don’t know much about it, except an interesting bit posted by TADO on the Kidrobot Forum here around the time of the ad:

pepsi_advertwe love jons pepsi piece!! its a very respectable project to be asked to work on as well!! as far as working for certain companies goes, its just part of our job. some companies ‘get it’, others dont. we cant speak for jon, but we are extremely proud of our client list and certainly enjoy working for the larger companies. of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion about certain companies - it comes down to the individual about who they choose to work with. everyone has their own opinions and everyone should respect each others. we’re very lucky in that we usually manage to get a nice balance of commercial work and fun work, and this kind of job is what keeps us going. we’ve done work for several big companies. we really enjoy that kind of work - its what we do.

both jon and ourselves work freelance at this thing full time - we dont have 9-5 jobs. unfortunately doing art shows and toys certainly doesnt pay the bills - its something we do because we love it and enjoy it! working freelance means that without big jobs, there would be no way for the art shows, toys, t-shirt projects etc to happen. we’d be on the streets and burgerman probably wouldnt have any cake to eat. this would make him a very sad creature. again, we cant speak for jon, but we would say that we are just designers or illustrators - we get paid to draw things for people - thats our job.

That was in 2006. In 2008, Jon did a design for a Pepsi can (above right) in a series of international artists produced by Artco. The cans were launched worldwide in January, with the exception of the U.S. and Canada. I don’t really drink soda, but I would have bought a six-pack of these. Wonder why North America got excluded?

Propaganda Club Shirts and Promos

According to its website: Propaganda is one of the UK’s biggest club nights playing the best new and classic indie alternative music every week. It’s an indie club phenomenon, with weekly club nights in Bristol, Cheltenham, Exeter and Swindon and new nights set to launch shortly at Gatecrasher Birmingham, Manchester, Gatecrasher Nottingham and Bournemouth. I can’t speak to how cool their club is, but for a place called Propaganda, they’ve got their propaganda in check for sure. Jon does a lot of promotional gear for Propaganda, including flyers, coasters, membership cards and t-shirts. If I ever get to the UK for a visit, I will fully go there and grab a fistful of swag.

These “Propergander” T-shirts were exclusively designed for Propaganda by Jon Burgerman. Printed on sweat-shop free American Apparel shirts and available in gold and silver print on black shirts or red and white Print on asphalt grey shirts in girls (sorry lads) S, M and L sizes for 10.99 GBP.

Some of that aforementioned swag, sent to me by Jon. Thanks!

Symbian Character Designs

symbian

Catching up on a few unrealized projects that are still awesome ideas. Here’s one from 2006-2007. Jon did these character designs as a commission for mobile software company, Symbian. In the end, the company called it off midway. Too bad, because there are a lot of cool characters in there.

GORE-TEX Ads

Jon did a series of print ads and one animated cinema ad for GORE-TEX. All of the ads featured drawings of faces on toes, like the one above and the (unrelated) image below.

WipEout Pure Advertisement

Jon did an ad for WipEout Pure on the PSP, which appeared in lots of UK magazines (Creative Review, Good For Nothing, Vice, DJ Magazine, Mixmag, Dazed and Confused, Straight No Chaser, Intersect and Trace) in 2005. The ad was for Jon’s downloadable Burgertown Races track for the game.

Snickers Advertisement T-shirt

Lest anyone think doodles are just wanton scribbles in a vacuum or that the life of a doodler is one of abject poverty, occasionally, doodles can be used to sell candy. In 2005, Jon was asked to design a T-shirt for this Snickers campaign which exposed the abs of a skater dude in an attempt to convey “satisfaction.” I love the text on the shirt. It reads: “I’m only going in the ambulance if they let me drive it.”
