I Think I Miss You Video by Anxieteam

Looks like Jon and co were up to something else besides muradoodling for AOL while recently in India. The latest video by Anxieteam was directed by Isaac Niemand & Premjit Ramachandran with photography by Saul Tiff. “I Think I Miss You” appears to be part of the story of the directors’ film, The Archaeology of Mind. I’m glad I saw that because I was going to try to make a clever joke like, “Man, The Knife has really let themselves go.” More please.

Caketronica

Caketronica
Anxieteam curate a mini festival of upbeat, electronic-tinged bands at the popular Ludlow St snug Cakeshop.

The audio delights promise to return good energy and wide toothy grins to the Lower East side, collecting together a new wave of young bands emerging from the gloomy downturn of the late Noughties with vim, brilliance and reliance. Shimmy and strut into the new decade with optimism and tunes that wont leave your head.

Anxieteam is the new collaboration of internationally renown artists Jim Avignon (Germany) and Jon Burgerman (UK). Splicing together merry pop melodies coupled with dry, sardonic lyrics, Anxieteam masterfully coax audiences into their colourful, bouncy world of catchy songs about modern day anxieties, longing and salads. ‘Let’s Eat Soya’ is their ridiculously infectious, anthemic dance declaration of smutty love in a meat-free-world whereas the Creedence Clearwater Revival sample heavy ‘I’ve Forgotten’ is a curiously blazing rock-workout response to CCR’s popular ‘Susie Q’.

Accompanying Anxieteam will be the indie boy, loop-based R&B of Rifle Recoil, the stuttering, sultry, soulful grooves of Peach and the twinkling digital dreamscapes of NY based Dorako.

Can’t make it to the show, but want to sample some cyber caketronica? Check out Jon’s last.fm radio station.

First and Second Anxieteam Attacks of 2010

Anxieteam at Monkeytown

Anxieteam kicked off the New Year with what looked like a rousing event at Monkeytown. If you follow Mr. Burgerman’s sometimes cryptic tweets, you might want to follow him over to Cake Shop, where there may or may not be another gig tonight! Really liking the lower righthand corner pic of Jim. Facebook status that, my brother!

Happy Virus Happy

monkeytown

Jon Burgerman and Jim Avignon are back together in Brooklyn to perform as Anxieteam, tomorrow, Sunday, January 3rd at Monkeytown.

Using the most modern technology currently available (whilst remaining relatively inexpensive) Happy Virus Happy will see both Avignon and Burgerman project onto the walls of the venue a startling, experimental, visual spectacle. Compositions, characters and crocodiles will dance into life, spawned live in between and during songs. Come and be soothed and massaged, in an audio visual sense, by the dexterous doodling and velveteen voices of Anxieteam. Songs of salads, mischievous rodents and heartache are carried along on a wave of melodic electronic beats occasionally punctuated by the fragile and fudged plucking of a ukulele.

Make a short movie of yourself, telling us your New Year wishes and Anxieteam will draw them during the performance. Film yourself against a plain background. The movie should be no longer than 30 seconds long maximum. Send them ASAP to Anxieteam@googlemail.com Your film will get shown during the performance and becomes a part of the show!

Who Is Afraid of a Friendly Capitalism?

Who Is Afraid of a Friendly Capitalism?

Jon reunites with Jim Avignon for an art and music gig at Heliumcowboy artspace in Hamburg. Who Is Afraid of a Friendly Capitalism? opens November 19th at 7PM and runs through November 21st until 7PM.

Art by: Fehmi Baumbach, Jon Burgerman, Guillaumit, Jule K., Eleanor Marston, Roman Klonek, Jojo Ensslin, Dasha Rychkova, Francoise Cactus, Frau Kraushaar, Christian von Werner, James Din A4, Kate Hate and Jim Avignon

Live music by: Anxieteam (Jim Avignon and Jon Burgerman), Jens Friebs and Frank Spilker, Chris Imler and Nova Huta

DJs: Pascal Fuhlbrügge, madame d’oreen, Francoise Cactus

Initiated by the artists Jim Avignon and Fehmi Baumbah and meant to scrutinise the stress ratio of subcultures on the one side and the industries on the other, by now, the event series “Who is Afraid of Friendly Capitalism“ is often mentioned to be the opponent of a mainly profit-orientated cultural industry.

After numerous happenings in the German capital as well as a guest performance for the Goethe Institute of Athens and the Swiss Fumeto Festival, Avignon and Baumbach will now make their way to Hamburg, to host their lounge at the gallery heliumcowboy artspace and to again mingle together club and gallery into a happening-like organic whole.

Again, almost famous personalities in art and music will meet obscure guests from all over the world. All together will create a turbulent night – regardless of the consequences. While many event series like to combine likewise artists within their line up, the “Friendly Capitalism Lounge” always invites versatile protagonists. On November 19th, the following members are invited: Jon Burgerman (GB), Guillaumit (F), Jule K. (D), Eleanor Marston (D), Roman Klonek (D), Jojo Ensslin (D), Dasha Rychkova (RUS), Francoise Cactus (F), Frau Kraushaar (D), Christian von Werner (D), James Din A4 (D) und Kate Hate (GB).

From collages, woodcarvings, illustrations to recession fashion and 25minute-band-sessions of the (Jim Avignon and Jon Burgerman), Jens Friebs and Frank Spilker, Chris Imler and Nova Huta – the “Friendly Capitalism Lounge Vol. 13“ at the heliumcowboy artspace again promises to be truly eventfully. Further more we are looking forward to acoustical impacts by DJ Pascal Fuhlbrügge, madame d’oreen and Francoise Cactus.

So don’t miss this rare event and let’s do as the initiators suggest: “Get off those money socks and jump into recession fashion – the ’Friendly Capitalism Lounge’ celebrates the end of capitalism we used to know.”

One Last ANXIETEAM Gig!

durbanvice

Much like Twin Peaks or the salad days of youth, all good things eventually come to an end. With Jon leaving New York soon, the future of ANXIETEAM, is, naturally, uncertain. If you need motivation to catch this potential last gig, click here or here.

The finale will be part of a “South African Themed Super Supper Club” happening this Saturday, August 22nd from 6-8PM at the Brooklyn Fire Proof Cafe and Bar. You’re supposed to bring a plate and tell them your dietary restrictions. Even eating like old folks as becoming hip! More info about the event here.

ANXIETEAM Performance Art

These awesome little “Dogme 95-style” videos were shot by Saki of the great blog, I Heart Cool Stuff, during the Anxieteam performance at this past weekend’s Brooklyn Bailout Burlesque. I heard a rumor that an HD interview is forthcoming from IHCS…
