Doodling and Signing at Kidrobot London
Many people assume that the posse is centered in and around the UK. Not true. We’re global. But if you do happen to be in the London area, go visit Jon at Kidrobot on 12/17. If anyone can save these Munnyworld figures from boring blank banality, it is Jon. Free stickers and accolades for anyone who goes to this and will pick us up a “Trikky” doodled by Jon for the DS HQ!
Join UK artist Jon Burgerman at Kidrobot London on Thursday, December 17, when he’ll be signing and scribbling with all his fans! Get your hands on your favorite Burgerman toy or pick up a brand-new MUNNYWORLD figure for him to doodle and scrawl on!
Kidrobot Interviews Jon
The Kidrobot Kronikle just posted a short video interview with Jon from this past summer in NY. Revelation: If Nottingham ceases to be Doodle HQ for one reason or another, Berlin, the Netherlands and New York should quickly get their campaigns going. This is really no different than putting in a bid to host the Olympics, so start talking to your Senators!
Mega Munny for MUNNYWORLD
If you are in New York right now, you can go see Jon’s 18-inch Mega Munny at The Eloquent Deliquents Gallery on Wooster Street. The MUNNY WORLD show is on view for just 3 days (November 13-15th) and includes pieces by some great artists and toy customizers like Doktor A, Huck Gee, Buff Monster, 64Colors, Devilrobots, Andrew Bell and Touma, among many others. I like a lot of the customs, but I’m iffy on the new line of DIY toys Kidrobot is promoting with this show. I’m not 100% sure we need more blank amorphous animal toys, particularly given that at least one looks like an already existing Qee shape and not to mention what artists can do with a 99 cent “rollie” deodorant stick.
But alas, I am a blogger not a businessman, and I’m sure these will sell like hotcakes and Rosie O’Donnell will buy stock. Not near New York? You can buy Jon’s one-of-a-kind Mega Munny here (through tomorrow only)! Not flush with cash? Enjoy the journey as much as the destination? Here’s a video for you. P.S. That’s Kidrobot’s typo, not mine!
Scribble Face Munny
Just now getting around to artkiving this Scribble Face Munny. It’s a nice touch that he’s two-faced and rather KO’d at that. The platform is a 4-inch Kidrobot Munny, and sorry posse, but this hand-drawn custom is long since spoken for. Congrats to whoever got him.
Custom Munny for Commission
This lucky doodle artist and fan got a customized Burgermunny from his wife for his birthday. Nice!
Mini Munny for Children of Cambodia Auction
Jon doodled on a mini Munny for the 2009 charity, 30 Customs by 30 Artists: An Auction to benefit the Children of Cambodia, orchestrated by Kidrobot’s Toy Baroness, Nichole:
I have reached out to 30 of my friends and asked them to create a custom toy specifically for this auction. Every cent from the sale of these customs will go directly to help the children I have met in Cambodia. With the help of people that I have met in Cambodia, I will be delivering clothing, shoes, books, paper, pens, and bicycles to children of Siem Reap villages. It has been a passion and a dream of mine to use art as a way of helping children and communities all over the World, and I am excited about this first step.
Jon’s figure raised almost $200 for the charity.
Rainy Day Dunny
Kidrobot took a page from Japanese toy stores and offered a toy that is only available on rainy days. Appropriately, they used a version of Jon’s umbrella-toting Gardunny from the Ye Olde English Dunny series. Not just a change of colorway, Jon’s Rainy Day Dunny is blue with all-new doodles. This is his third 3-inch Dunny for Kidrobot. The figure is available only when it’s raining (at Kidrobot stores and “virtually” online). It’s limited to 1000 pieces for $9.95 here. Flippers on eBay are already charging you as much as 5X that, despite it’s relatively recent (April 16th, 2009) drop date. “It’s a shame that people do that but they’re not breaking the law or anything,” said Jon. “You can’t do much about it, it’s part of the market and the price you pay for making exclusive limited pieces.”
Gardunny for Ye Olde English Dunny Series
The “Bonkers for Conkers” Gardunny is Jon’s second 3-inch Dunny (following Fatty Boom-Boom for Dunny Series 4). It is part of Kidrobot’s Ye Olde English Dunny Series and has a ratio of 2:25. This is a great, classic Jon design, and it even comes with a little parasol. On February 19th, 2009, Jon did an in-store signing at Kidrobot New York to promote the figure (as well as his recent Heroes of Burgertown minis). More pictures of KR’s Evening With Jon Burgerman can be seen here.
Munny Coloring Book for Kidrobot
Before there was this awesomeness, Jon made a little unassuming coloring book for Kidrobot. “Munny Coloring Book #10 contains special coloring pages by Jon Burgerman.” This was likely a promotion in conjunction with the DIY Munny toys.
Kidrobot Print
Unusual for Jon, but this recent Kidrobot print doesn’t have a title. It’s 17 x 23 inches and black, teal and white. According to Kidrobot, it’s a standard edition and limited run. They wrote: “UK doodler Jon Burgerman’s limited edition print has a secret message between the lines and is way radder than those optical illusion ones you used to beg your mom to buy you at the mall.” You can get it for $80 here.
