Rizla Marketing Campaign Doodles

Rizla Marketing Campaign Doodles

Let’s take one more trip in the wayback machine, and we’ll catch up on current stuff tomorrow. This goes back to 2004, when Seismic, a UK-based creative design studio, developed the marketing campaign design for Rizla’s music festival ‘Inspired By’. The campaign received heavy rotation. Jon did the doodles.

Giant Musical Doodles Poster

Musical Doodles by Jon Burgerman

Jon’s definitely been exploring a new and musical chapter in his life recently, so it’s only fitting that he’d combine his love for music and doodles into one giant hybrid poster monster. The high quality print on 230gsm uncoated art paper is a massive format, portrait size 100×70 cm / 39.6×27.6″ beast sent rolled in a a strong card tube for £15 or ~ $23. I’ve learned via Jon’s Flickr that the above poster is being modeled by “the lovely Mel”. Check it out at Burgerplex here.

Anxieteam Performs at Goodbye Blue Monday

Anxieteam at Goodbye Blue Monday

Anxieteam played its last NYC show (for now) at Goodbye Blue Monday on June 13th. During this gig, Anxieteam’s first CD was free-vealed, and our Doodlesplatter NYC correspondent, Saki, was kind enough to share the tunes and photos from the event. You can sample some of the tracks on Anxieteam’s MySpace page, but Jon has cryptically suggested that there may be more Anxieteam CD news in August. Saki won one of the coveted discs, but I don’t think she’s posted about it yet. You should still check out her Flickr and blog, though, because she rules and because I said so. Goodbye Blue Monday and Goodbye Anxieteam (for now). Jon has many more photos on his site here.

Anxieteam Performs at Pete’s Candy Store

Pete's Candy Store Anxieteam Performance

Doodlesplatter NYC correspondent, Saki, was kind enough to provide us with lots of photos from Anxieteam’s recent Brooklyn shows. These snaps are from the June 2nd gig at Pete’s Candy Store where Saki was even one of the “Let’s Eat Soya” dancers. I don’t think she’s posted about this yet, but you should check out her Flickr and blog anyway because she rules and because I said so. From Munch-esque backdrop to the Cher-esque costume changes, this looked like a lot of fun. Jon also has many more photos on his site here.

Sunday-Singalong at Goodbye Blue Monday in Brooklyn

Sunday Singalong at Goodbye Blue Monday

Ready for more of this? This just in from Jon:

Singalong with Anxieteam this coming Sunday night at Goodbye Blue Monday, 1087 Broadway, Brooklyn, New York, from 9pm.

This special event sees the last performance for sometime on the shores of America for the cute cartoon couple.

But wipe those tears away! Through-out the performance, the band will be giving away their first ever CD to ten lucky audience members - for FREE! The CD includes some of their classic pop tunes along with karaoke versions so you too can join in and singalong with Anxieteam! Each CD will be numbered and signed by the band and to further record this momentous giveaway Jim and Jon will draw your portrait on the cover. If you don’t live in NYC, then get a friend to come along instead (with your photograph!).

This is absolutely guaranteed to be a collectors item in the years to come, perfect for you to sell on eBay and retire on the profits. (non-guaranteed by the state of Anxieteam)

See you at Goodbye Blue Monday on Sunday to sing-along and say goodbye (for now) to Anxieteam!

Hopefully the Anxieteam CDs will make their way to Burgerplex for all of us who are currently geographically challenged.

Anxieteam Performs At Factory Fresh

Anxieteam at Factory Fresh

Jon and Jim returned to Factory Fresh last Saturday to perform as Anxieteam. Per RobotsWillKill:

The multi-talented duo sang, danced and painted simultaneously. Jim’s beats and Jon’s droll texts were as charmingly infectious and upbeat as ever.

Jon is at the Apple Store RIGHT NOW!

Inkstrumental Event at the Apple Store

I sincerely hope you are reading this on your iPhone (no doubt during a break from playing Inkstrumental). If you’re anywhere near London (and if my ability to translate timezones is anywhere near correct), Jon and ustwo, creators of the doodlicious Inkstrumental app, are at the Apple Store RIGHT NOW. Says Jon:

Get over to the Apple Store, Regent Street, London for a special evening featuring myself and London design studio ustwo. We will talk about how we made the excellent iPhone and iPad app Inkstrumental and probably act all silly a bit too. I may do some digital doodling throughout.

From 7pm, at the Apple Store, 235 Regent Street, London.

Some of you have written to say you’d send pictures, so please do. For the rest of us who are on other continents, kindly content yourself with my Inksterview.

Inkstrumental Crossover Interview!

Inkstrumental Crossoversauce

I just posted an interview with Jon and Mills (of ustwo), creators of Inkstrumental™ on the Neon Monster blog. Not coincidentally, Neon Monster’s blog is another example of the outstanding example of custom blog design by The Neon Hive, who are also responsible for the fantastic blog you are currently enjoying.

Hardcore readers of Doodlesplatter will recall an actual coincidence. I first posted about Inkstrumental™, almost exactly a year ago today. Here’s a starting teaser to the story:

Inkstrumental™ is a fun game where characters designed by Jon Burgerman each correspond to a sound. You assemble a ragtag band of 8 characters (out of a possible 30 + 1 wildcard where you can record your own vocal sample) and tap them to add their voices to one of 3 backing tracks. (Or you can just button mash.) When you’re satisfied with the result, save it and share it. Fun for the whole family! I recently took a break from playing Inkstrumental™ for a volley of virtual wordplay with Jon, the “professional doodler” and Mills, “the Willy Wonka of the app world”.

Hooked? Hope so. Please read the rest of the illuminating Inkterview™ here.
