Kidrobot Munnyworld One-Off Customs
Following up their 2008 Heroes of Burgertown Dunny/Munny Mashups, Jon joins forces again with Stu Witter on these one-off Kidrobot Munnyworld customs. If you know only three things about me, you probably know that 1) I love the color green, 2) I dislike the majority of platform toys, with a particular disdain for Munnyworld and 3) I am a huge fan of Jon Burgerman. With the #3 bias noted, I can say that Stu’s sculpting and Jon’s doodles have made these the first Munnyworld customs I have seen and liked. Perhaps its the clean solid application of color that reclaims them from the saturated dismal domain of stark white DIY toys? (Read a little thought-provoking article I wrote about all that here). Or maybe doodles really can fix even the most problematic platforms?

Custom Vinyl Rody
Everybody at Doodlesplatter is always excited when there’s the potential for a new Jon Burgerman toy. We think that the rumored collab with Amanda Visell may have been just that (a rumor), so the current fate of new JB toys lies in the hands (hooves) of an Italian horse named Rody. Rody was licensed by a Japanese company called Jammy, turned into a vinyl toy by intheyellow and is now the subject of a group custom toy show sponsored by the great folks at Paradise Toy Land in Taipei. Jon is representing all of England amongst an excellent roster that also includes Bwana Spoons, Uamou and Tim Biskup (and Tim Biskup’s daughter). The show is currently up and running (trotting) in Taipei.
For those of you keeping count, this is actually Jon’s SECOND custom horse toy. The first was Pizza Face Pony for the My Little Pony Project in 2008. Perhaps if Rody is successful overseas, we’ll eventually get a production version. But let’s not put the cart before the horse. OK I’ll quit horsing around with the puns now!
Jon Does Munnyworld
I really wasn’t feeling these new Munnyworld figures from Kidrobot until I saw these pictures from Jon’s recent signing at the KR London shop. Maybe it’s that I’m biased toward Jon’s art, or maybe it’s just refreshing to see something other than the same old Munny (even if the new Munnyworld shapes aren’t exaclty “new”). Doodling Results from Kidrobot London Signing
On December 17th, Jon did a signing at Kidrobot’s London location. Beforehand, he used twitter to encourage people to “bring crazy things along to be doodlearized, sillier the better!” The fans really came through with toys, clocks, cups, cars, clothes and even a plastic pigeon. And Jon gamely doodled it all. Looked like a great time. Photos via Kidrobot, The Daily Street, and Elektrodrop. Mega Munny Scrawl
This ornately doodled Mega Munny is currently available at Burgerplex. The figure stands 18 inches tall and is hand-painted and signed by Jon. The £700.00 price tag includes courier shipping. An amazing piece for whoever can afford it!
Queens Medical Centre Murals
If you have to be admitted to the Nottingham Queens Medical Centre, Children’s Wing, at least the decor is cheerful. Jon did these two adhesive wall murals with printing and installation by Ian Robinson. The sheets of coloring book paper are a nice touch. Are those POSCAS?
This Bud’s For You
I’ve been hanging onto this title since August. A new production toy by Jon is finally here in the form of a Blow Up Doll (BUD) by Jamungo. In typical Jon fashion, he has defused the implicit (albeit cartoon) violence of the figure with doodles (and fruit). If you were a reader of the toy blog I used to edit, you may recall that I HATE BLIND BOX TOYS and wrote a lengthy ‘expose’ on that packaging practice. While some major companies (including Kidrobot) are now contractually forbidding retailers from opening blind box toys to sell them individually, luckily Jamungo is not. There are actually quite a few desirable pulls in this particular BUD Series 3, but I like to know exactly what I’m buying: these days especially. I already picked up my favorites from the excellent San Francisco-based Ningyoushi. You can find Jon’s BUD for ten bucks right here. Order one, and tell them Jeremy said they were “The Bomb!” Apple and Pommie not included.
Mega Munny for MUNNYWORLD
If you are in New York right now, you can go see Jon’s 18-inch Mega Munny at The Eloquent Deliquents Gallery on Wooster Street. The MUNNY WORLD show is on view for just 3 days (November 13-15th) and includes pieces by some great artists and toy customizers like Doktor A, Huck Gee, Buff Monster, 64Colors, Devilrobots, Andrew Bell and Touma, among many others. I like a lot of the customs, but I’m iffy on the new line of DIY toys Kidrobot is promoting with this show. I’m not 100% sure we need more blank amorphous animal toys, particularly given that at least one looks like an already existing Qee shape and not to mention what artists can do with a 99 cent “rollie” deodorant stick.
But alas, I am a blogger not a businessman, and I’m sure these will sell like hotcakes and Rosie O’Donnell will buy stock. Not near New York? You can buy Jon’s one-of-a-kind Mega Munny here (through tomorrow only)! Not flush with cash? Enjoy the journey as much as the destination? Here’s a video for you. P.S. Scribble Face Munny
Just now getting around to artkiving this Scribble Face Munny. It’s a nice touch that he’s two-faced and rather KO’d at that. The platform is a 4-inch Kidrobot Munny, and sorry posse, but this hand-drawn custom is long since spoken for. Congrats to whoever got him.
Custom 8-inch Egg Qees For Sale
I’ve seen these Qees around before, but never for sale. These are both really great 8-inch pieces. Greeny Egg (£250) glows in the dark. Fruit Head Egg looks like it’s already been spoken for. I must say that of all the platforms Jon has doodled on, I think Egg Qees are some of his best work. See previous Qee customs and the Burgermenos series.
