Cute and Dangerous Live Painting
I didn’t make it down the coast for Cute & Dangerous, but thanks to the fast-acting pill known as Flickr, I feel (almost) like I was there. This gig looked like so much fun with a host of talented artists, live drawing by Jon and Luke Feldman, and the appearance of the Zippercut girls. Looks like art was selling too; I can spot some red dots on Jon’s mini-canvases. Nice! Music Sales Mural
At the end of May, Jon did two large scale muradoodles. This one was for the London office of Music Sales. Photos of the other coming soon.
Subism Live…Notts
This looked like a great gathering of live art and music. Subism hosted the event on Saturday, May 30th. I’ve snagged a few photos of Jon from the extensive gallery taken by Antony Kitson. Julie West was also there!
Subism hosts established and up and coming contemporary artists from around the world, selling limited-edition artwork, from street art and graffiti to digital art, design and illustration. Subism Live brings live art to your party. Over the past year Subism has hosted a series of regular parties around the UK with monthly events at The Vaults, Derby. 2009 sees Subism go on tour.
Drawing at The Plant
Jon went to The Plant to do a live doodle in their office while the workers worked. (Why can’t that happen in my office?) It was organized by the Young Creative Network (YCN) as part of their live series of events.
Hay Festival
Jon created two giant 2×2x2m cubes, a smaller cube, two 1×2m panels and twenty A1 sized panels for the Hay Festival. The Hay Festival happens each year in the town of Hay-on-Wye in Wales.
Anyone could come along to the Sky Arts dome where the cubes were and color them in, completing the work how they saw fit. If you were amongst the first 200 people to come and color in each day you got an exclusive tote bag designed by Jon too, for free. The pens for the event were kindly provided by Posca.

The nice thing about this project, other than getting paid of course, was that lots of different types of people really got into it. Young and old and very old all seemed to enthusiastically colour in my work. Some diligently stayed within the lines but others, probably free-spirited types, fancied scrawling and scribbling over everything to make their mark. There were no rules to how people responded to the work, so even though some bits of the cube really got heavily covered in Posca pen ink, it was allowed. It was interesting for me to see how people coloured in and drew over my work as it was, of course, very different to how I would of done it. Lots of it looked excellent too.
Whilst I was drawing on the cubes people wanted to colour them in, even though I wanted to finish the drawing first. The Sky people had to make these signs and cordon off the area I was drawing in with rope barriers. But people still couldn’t wait and lent over the barriers to try and sneak some colouring in. Maybe they couldn’t read the signs, so much for it being a literary festival…
Blue Peter
Jon was featured on Blue Peter, on October 15th, 2008 from 4:35 - 5:00PM on BBC1. Blue Peter is a kids’ TV show, now celebrating its 50th year, yet somehow completely unknown in the US. In this edition, Jon doodles with the team and gets a Blue Peter badge.
